Description of Work

For our research papers, we chose to look into different kinds of scams lurking in the business world, and how they can affect businesses and society as a whole. There are hundreds of different scams at any given time, but we decided to focus on lesser-known scams that the majority of people don't even think about. These scams include rigged casinos, charity fraud, business email compromise, and embezzlement within smaller businesses.

We chose this topic in an attempt to bring more attention to the criminal side of the business world that people otherwise see as harmless. Especially with the recent rise in technology, various scams are getting even harder to spot, and we believe that it is vital for everyone to know what to look out for and the effects one of these scams could have on their lives. We specifically chose to research these scams because they cover all aspects of the business world, and everyone can relate to at least one of them. Rigged casinos affect any person who is just looking to have fun, charity fraud affects anyone who donates their time or money to what they believe is a good cause, business email compromise affects individuals, businesses, and governments, and embezzlement affects anyone who either owns or is employed at a business.

The idea of learning from the negatives of business and finance through the various scams that plague the business world is an amazing way for individuals who are unaware or ill-informed of the situations to learn how those issues can affect them and the businesses around them. With all of our topics, there is information available on the internet, however, it can be hard to find because of how scattered and disorganized the data is. Our research papers serve as small hubs of information pertaining to our topics. They allow people to find everything they would need to know about our topics in one place; This includes what it is, how it can occur, what effects can be, and what to look out for so it does not happen to you. These ideas can give different perspectives on all aspects of the world of business and finance, showing how these businesses work, the threats they can be scummed into, and the impacts that they can have on society. The information we provide on these different scams and how they operate coalesce into one place, making it all readily available to individuals.

There is an abundance of risks of not being well informed about the consequences of not being well informed. You as an individual are more likely to be preyed upon due to your lack of knowledge, becoming more likely to be scammed. We believe it is important for this information to be read and shared due to the relevance that it holds today with the numerous amounts of new and innovative ways of scamming and the new and creative way of protecting oneself from being scammed. Some risks that come from being ill-informed of this information can include financial loss, stress and heartache, and many more.

Description of Assignment

As a group, you must prepare the research papers for consumption by the public. Your group will choose either to publish the essays on Digital Commons or a website of your own design, or your group can choose to present the papers in a face-to-face presentation. Regardless of what the group chooses, your group members will need to collaboratively compose a 500-word introduction as well as paginate/design the content or convert the essays into a script. If your group chooses a face-to-face presentation, you are expected to give the presentation to an audience of my choosing. Other options which would be available with my approval – a podcast, a YouTube video, or conference submission.

By sharing your research, you will be contributing to the conversation. Others will be able to experience your research, which will help them understand your topic better.
